I am helping organize a theatre mask workshop, and our notes use the word oval rather loosely. Some volunteers mean the outline of a person's face, while others mean the shape of the template. It would help to settle the wording before everyone arrives with a different interpretation. I am considering face shape measurements as a starting point for that discussion. We need a shared description of the outline, while keeping the actual fitting decisions separate. Our draft briefing currently mentions overall length, cheekbone width, and the shape of the jaw. I would like to explain which observations describe shape and which belong on a fitting sheet. Paper mockups are part of the workshop, which gives us a chance to check individual differences. How would you phrase that distinction in a short introduction for first-time volunteers?
