I am preparing a drawing lesson for adults who have never studied portrait proportions. Some silhouettes on my worksheet look like combinations of the usual face shape categories. I would like these terms to help people describe what they see without forcing a category. I have bookmarked a face shape quiz as a possible discussion prompt. First, I would check whether its questions relate clearly to visible features in our sample drawings. We could mark the widest area, then compare the forehead, cheekbones, and jaw in ordinary language. A tilted head would stay out of the first exercise because it adds another variable. It would help to include an outline that reasonably supports more than one descriptive label. Does anyone have a classroom exercise that keeps these labels secondary to close observation?
